Mother’s Day was last weekend. I hope everyone had some time to celebrate and appreciate the mothers in our lives. My mom was always good at making sure people felt included and I thought of her when I heard this short story on a podcast. Would You Like to Join Us?
“It’s so easy to see someone who seems left out and alone and notice them, say hello to them, be kind to them.”
That’s something my mom tried to instill in me. I kind of disagree with that quote. It’s simple, but it’s not easy. It’s something I admit struggling with. I find that it takes a little courage to invite new people into one of your groups. I’m not sure what I’m scared of when faced with those situations. That people won’t get along? That there will be some awkwardness? I’m not sure, but it makes me uncomfortable and I wish it didn’t because I know what it feels like to be on the outside of a group. It’s definitely something I can work on improving and the podcast and Mother’s Day were a good reminder.
Another thing I’ve noticed lately is how much I enjoy “crowd pleaser” music. That’s my name for it. These are the songs that play during breaks in a sporting event, at the start and end of races, during a montage in a movie, or sometimes in restaurants and public places. It’s just “fun” music. When these songs come on randomly, I can just feel my whole mood is lifted, and I started asking myself, “Why don’t I listen to this music more often?” So I’ve started creating a playlist of such songs when I hear them and I’m really enjoying it.
The house is looking like a house! It was amazing how fast the work went when the materials showed up. They got the sheathing on the roof just in time for a couple weeks of nearly daily rain. Here are some shots of the progress.
We’re waiting on some materials to finish roughing in the front porch and back deck, but the hope is that house wrap and windows will be going on soon, as well as the rough stairs inside. I think my next door neighbors move in this week!
My final fun news is that I got a rock climbing gym membership for the summer! I hadn’t really climbed consistently in 20 years. A coworker set up an after work event at a gym and I remembered how fun it was! I’ve only been three times so far, but I really do love it.
Have a great week! If you need a pick-me-up, try some crowd pleaser music. Memorial Day is right around the corner!
Much to learn and appreciate in your post. Good to see. As you noted in your post, music has this amazing ability to enhance the experience, maybe re-awaken great memories or even make us feel good.
Progress in building is welcome; now I can see the house for real - I don't have to imagine it from the renderings. I especially like the addition of the legends at the pictures. We say "pictures are worth a thousand words", but for me a few words added create a story. I like stories. I remember stories, well,, mostly.
It is great now and with confident hope it will be great.
Music really does have the power to just lift your mode :) Amazing progress, its really starting to come along now, looking forward to seeing more updates and great seeing the progress of neighboring houses aswell, place it really coming along nicely. Enjoy the rock climbing and have a great summer
